Hello Room 9 Parents,
It is a busy week at BES. Last week we wound up our first reading, writing and math units, and I will share your child’s work with you at conference time. (Please watch for the math assessment data that will be sent home tomorrow.) We have started new nonfiction reading and writing units, and in math the class is learning about place value.
Please continue to encourage your child to read and practice math facts regularly. I have been impressed with the reading and math parent communication sheets. Most children are going above and beyond the recommended 10 minutes for reading and 5 minutes for math. All my students are now logged onto the Xtramath program, which is an excellent way to study basic facts on the computer. Tomorrow, I will be sending home the information sheet explaining how to log on at home.

Book Fair: Today our class visited the book fair and made wish lists. We will return tomorrow to make purchases at 11:30. The book fair will also be open on Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:30 in conjunction with Mystery Reader Night.
This Wednesday (October 17) is an early dismissal day (1:05)
Next Wednesday and Thursday are early dismissal days for Parent/Teacher conferences. (See schedule below)
