What's going on in Room 11?

12/15/2015

This is such an exciting time of year in an elementary school!  There is so much going on.  We are very excited to go on our first field trip tomorrow to the high school to watch their band and chorus perform for us.  We will going with all of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders across the district!
We are still doing so much learning in the classroom.  We have been exploring shapes and learning about partitioning these shapes.
We are reading fiction books to learn about the characters.  Learning about traits, feelings, problems and solutions.  We are also writing fiction stories that include these things!
We started studying Holidays around the world.  We have noticed that there are many similarities between how we celebrate in the United States and how other countries celebrate.
We will be having a small celebration in our classroom next Tuesday.  Don't forget to send in a wrapped book for our book exchange!

Shapes are all around!

12/10/2015

Today we got outside in the gorgeous weather to search for shapes on the playground. The children did a great job finding all types of polygons and non polygons outside!

Shapes, shapes, shapes!

12/3/2015

We have started to learn all about shapes! We are learning about sides, angles and vertices. We have been discussing what shapes are polygons, and what shapes are non polygons. This unit is filled with a lot of new vocabulary! The kids have been creating shapes on Geo Boatds and sorting shapes by different attributes. This is s fun, hands on math unit!
