We have been busy in Room 11! We wrapped up many different things in class prior to our Thanksgiving break. We finished up our math unit on place value. We will be moving on to shapes and time next. We also wrapped up our non fiction writing. The kids wrote some amazing "expert books". To celebrate the end of our mon-fiction reading unit, we became "tour guides"! We brought our listeners on a journey through the topics that we had been studying. We even made posters of our learning and shared these with some first grade friends!
I wanted to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. I am so thankful to spend each day with your amazing children! Please enjoy this iMovie that our class created!
Today the students of Burr School participated in a "Sports Day" fundraiser. For a $1.00 donation, they were able to wear any sports gear. We had local HK teams represented, college teams represented and professional teams represented. All funds raised are being donated to Emma Becker, a fourth grader from HES battling cancer. I am so proud of my caring class! As a bonus... Our class wore the most green on Monday for our "going green" assembly! So, today we got FREE ice cream!!!!! Yummy!!!!!
We had an awesome cultural arts presentation today. We got to see and touch so many cool reptiles! Be sure to ask your kids what they saw!
Thank you Burr PTO!! The scientists of Room 11 are hard at work observing our soils. They are using their senses to make observations! Be sure to ask your child which one of our senses we couldn't use for this experiment!
We had a great assembly today to kick off our recycling initiative here at Burr School. The children were dressed in green and were eager to learn how we can help. A representative from All Waste came in to speak with us about the things that can be recycled in the cafeteria and in the classroom. There will be a poster and slogan contest too. We are also looking for someone to be a representative on our Waste Management team. If your child is interested have them fill out the form!
What's a Glog?
A Glog is a digital poster and our students worked together to create them. We used this as a culmination activity for our Community study. They came out great!! If you hover over my name on the side, you will see student work and Glog posters. Click on Glog posters and you can view them! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the veterans's who have served our country and those who are currently serving. We had a wonderful Veteran's Day assembly yesterday at school. The picture below is of some second grade students from the three classes that set the little white table as the teachers read the book.
We had a cozy, fun day wearing our jammie's at school today! Even though we were super comfy, we were still hard workers. The kids have been hard at work comparing three digit numbers, reading non-fiction books (and learning the lingo) and writing "expert"books! We have also enjoyed this beautiful November weather.
Happy November! Just a reminder there is no school for students tomorrow (Election Day). Wednesday for Arts Block we have gym! Don't forget sneakers!!!!
